Upgrading to 12.2 is an easier, quicker project than the jump from 11.5.10. Effort-wise, it is similar to a technical upgrade (like 11.5.9 to 11.5.10). While there are unique aspects to the R12.2 upgrade, they are primarily on the technical side. Online patching will change your DBA’s job and they will need to read the patching documentation. R12.2 requires custom code adherence to the updated standards that are necessary for online patching. The good news is that there are some useful tools, scripts, and information sources available and we’ll show you where to find them. We’ll break down the project, show the 3 major focus areas, and cover who is responsible for the key elements. Release 12.2.X is the “Continuous Innovation” E-Business Suite release (there will not be a 12.3) and serve as foundation for all technical and functional enhance enhancement moving forward. We’ll walk through Oracle’s on premise EBS support commitment, cover the dates, and where to find the information to relieve any concerns that EBS “is going away”. There are functional enhancements to R12.2, but they will not impact typical users like the 11i to R12 upgrade did. Under most circumstances, there should be no need for retraining. We’ll step through the more significant changes and show you where to find more information. Over the past few years, Oracle has focused their functional EBS development effort on the Enterprise Command Centers. We’ll preview the 31 Command Centers, cover what they can do for you as well as what it takes to kick start them. In addition, we will take the audience through some methodology that can be used for any upgrade project and share lessons learned. We’ll also cover where the cloud might possibly add some value to the upgrade, and why you can’t “just upgrade your on premise EBS to the Oracle Software as a Service cloud”. This functional presentation is for anyone who needs to plan, manage, or be part of an upgrade.
